WORK PACKAGE 6
Applicability of information products for achieving policy goals
Here is a summary of the activities being developed in work package 6. All activities are linked to work package tasks (T) and deliverables (D).
2023
Q1 – December to February | — |
Q2 – March to May | Identified knowledge gaps related to policy requirements through the review of 8 policy instruments across Europe, ensuring that information products address these needs (Task T6.1) |
Organisation of informative sessions between T6.3 leads and partners on the underlying principles and criteria involving MPA network ecological coherence and the type of biodiversity data needs (including the biodiversity features) useful at regional and subregional level to assess and improve the coherence of the network (Task T6.3)
Produced a checklist of all biological features relevant for MPAs (Task T6.3)
Collaborated with the EU project MPA Europe to create a dataset of organic carbon percentage density stocks and accretion rates across European seagrass meadows and salt marshes (Task T6.4)
Q3 – June to August | Compiled European seagrass and salt marsh distribution maps from various sources including EMODNET, UNEP, and national agencies (Task T6.4) |
Organisation of informative sessions between T6.3 leads and partners on the underlying principles and criteria involving MPA network ecological coherence and the type of biodiversity data needs (including the biodiversity features) useful at regional and subregional level to assess and improve the coherence of the network (Task T6.3)
Q4 – September to November | Completed the evaluation of EU and international marine policy requirements to deliver the report “Review, Analysis, and Crosswalk of the Data Requirements of Key Policies” (submission of Deliverable 6.1; Task T6.1) |
Organisation of informative sessions between T6.3 leads and partners on the underlying principles and criteria involving MPA network ecological coherence and the type of biodiversity data needs (including the biodiversity features) useful at regional and subregional level to assess and improve the coherence of the network (Task T6.3) |
2024
Q5 – December to February | Started comparing OBAMA-NEXT’s candidate information products with the needs identified in D6.1 to assess and strengthen their policy relevance (Task T6.2) |
Started using information products to assess the blue carbon potential of seagrass and salt marsh habitats across Europe (Task T6.4)
Q6 – March to May | Produced a draft manuscript containing a governance analysis to link Tasks T6.1 with T6.5 |
Developed a prototype dashboard to help IP leads think about the data needs their products could address, making it easier to compare products and needs (Task T6.2)
Drafted a checklist of biological features of conservation relevance (species and benthic habitats) at regional and subregional level of importance for MPA designation (Task T6.3) |
