WORK PACKAGE 2
Assessing existing and new data sources for pelagic habitats
Here is a summary of the activities being developed in work package 2. All activities are linked to work package tasks (T) and deliverables (D).
2023
Q1 – December to February | Held discussion between OBAMA-NEXT and MARCO-BOLO (Task T2.3) |
Began organizing workshops with experts outside the consortium (with support from coordination) and from other projects (MARCO-BOLO) (Task T2.3)
Q2 – March to May | Conducted literature review for Deliverable D2.1 “Review existing and emerging technology” (Task T2.1) |
Discussed the status of some techniques following the JERICO S3 meeting (Task T2.1)
Began developing algorithm development for differentiating phytoplankton functional types (Task T2.2)
Discussed formats for metadata and in situ data to create the OBAMA-NEXT database (Task T2.2)
Met with other WPs to engage with policy makers (Task T2.4)
Submitted proposal for Euromarine foresight workshop to prepare a co-joint workshop between JERICO-S3 and OBAMA-NEXT “Tips and Tricks towards flow cytometry data FAIRness” in 2024 (Task T2.4)
Q3 – June to August | JERICO-S3 Low-cost sensors and citizen science workshop |
Improved the data flow for flow cytometry data from acquisition to data handling (Task T2.4)
Q4 – September to November | Completed the first draft of D2.1 and sent it to all collaborators for review (Task T2.1) |
Established best practices for acquiring flow cytometry data, defining and labelling phytoplankton communities, and building training sets for AI processes (Task T2.4) |
2024
Q5 – December to February | Submitted the pre-final version of D2.1 to the OBAMA-NEXT steering committee (Task T2.1) |
Made final corrections and submitted D2.1 (Task T2.1)
Began writing a scientific paper on How eDNA (-omics and qPCR) can be used to answer stakeholder and policy maker questions (Task T2.3)
Planned a workshop to present the best practices manual and automatic clustering to the flow cytometry community (in person and online) (Task T2.4)
Q6 – March to May | Successfully delivered a catalogue of emerging technologies for mapping biodiversity in pelagic habitat (being considered for scientific publication) (Task T2.1) |
Conducted a scopus review showing the camera as the most used tool for citizen science studies, followed by surveys. Prepared a questionnaire for WP2 and WP3 partners to be sent in summer (Task T2.4) |
