OBAMA-NEXT project is sponsoring the upcoming TT-CYTO: Tips and Tricks towards flow cytometry data FAIRness workshop
In the ever-evolving world of marine science, the upcoming “TT-CYTO: Tips and Tricks towards flow cytometry data FAIRness” workshop marks a significant milestone. Sponsored by renowned entities including the EURO MARINE and the European Comission, as well as supported by several Horizon Europe projects, such as OBAMA-NEXT and JERICO-S3, this event is dedicated to advancing the field of marine flow cytometry, a technique crucial for in situ analysis of marine phytoplankton at the single-cell level. It is scheduled for June 4th-6th, 2024, at the Laboratory of Oceanology and Geosciences in Wimereux, France, with possibility for remote participation.
The primary focus of TT-CYTO is to enhance the accessibility and reliability of marine flow cytometry data, aligning it with the FAIR principles — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. This initiative addresses the current gaps in manual gating and aims to establish universal guidelines that integrate automated classification processes, like neural networks. These advancements are crucial in managing the extensive data sets generated by flow cytometry, and in elevating the data analysis to new heights.
TT-CYTO is not just about refining techniques; it’s a nexus for community building within the marine flow cytometry sphere. The workshop presents a unique opportunity for experts and early-career scientists to converge, share insights, and tackle emerging challenges such as applying artificial intelligence methodologies to analyse phytoplankton diversity data. These interactions are pivotal in contributing to more accurate oceanic models and understanding.
For those interested in being at the forefront of marine data analysis, participating in TT-CYTO is an invaluable opportunity. The workshop promises to be a landmark event in standardizing flow cytometry practices and enhancing data reliability, which in turn will significantly contribute to the development of ocean models. Early-career scientists and marine data enthusiasts are encouraged to seize this opportunity by applying before the February 29, 2024 deadline, by contacting Melilotus Thyssen.
TT-CYTO is organized by a team of distinguished researchers including Melilotus Thyssen, Lumi Haraguchi, Constantin Frangoulis, Raffaella Casotti, Veronique Creach, Felipe Artigas, and backed by leading marine research networks and initiatives such as JERICO-S3 and the IFSEA Graduate School. It stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and commitment to advancing marine science and we’re looking forward to seeing you all there!
