Plankton Imaging and Ecosystem Insight: New Session at Ocean Sciences 2026
OBAMA-NEXT partner Cefas co-organises session at Ocean Sciences Meeting, in Glasgow, on plankton and particle imaging.
OBAMA-NEXT is pleased to share that our partner Sophie Pitois from Cefas (UK) is co-convening a scientific session at the upcoming Ocean Sciences Meeting, taking place from 22 to 27 February 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Titled “Plankton and particle imaging: moving beyond classification towards ecosystem understanding,” the session will explore how advancements in imaging technologies can support ecological understanding, environmental monitoring, and health assessments in marine ecosystems.
Researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts that address a range of topics, including data quality control, storage, and instrument intercalibration; integration of imaging with traditional sampling or complementary techniques; and real-time monitoring applications. The session also welcomes case studies that demonstrate how imaging tools can overcome technical or logistical barriers, and best practices for generating taxonomically accurate datasets.
Abstract submission is open until 20 August 2025. Learn more and submit yours here.
This initiative aligns closely with OBAMA-NEXT’s goals of advancing marine biodiversity observation and data integration tools for better ecosystem-based management. We’re proud to see our partners contributing to the global dialogue on marine monitoring innovation.
