OBAMA-NEXT Reaches 36-Month Milestone with Major Progress Across Work Packages
As OBAMA-NEXT enters its final year, the project marks its 36-month milestone with strong progress towards its goals of advancing marine biodiversity monitoring and supporting EU environmental policy. The consortium is now preparing the official 36-month reporting, reflecting on three years of intensive research, collaboration, and innovation.
Over this period, OBAMA-NEXT has delivered a wide range of tested Information Products, developed across its Learning Sites, and grounded in real-world data, stakeholder input, and interdisciplinary methodologies. These tools are being designed for practical use in policy and management, in line with the project’s co-creation approach.
Results have been shared across scientific and policy platforms, including major international conferences, targeted Practitioners Advisory Board (PAB) meetings, and expert fora. As of this milestone, the project has produced 2 policy briefs and 56 peer-reviewed publications, significantly contributing to the scientific basis for ecosystem-based monitoring.
With one year remaining, OBAMA-NEXT is focused on finalising key deliverables, scaling the use of tested tools, and ensuring that outputs are accessible and policy-relevant—supporting better management of Europe’s marine ecosystems well beyond the project’s duration.
