Jacob Carstensen, Coordinator of OBAMA-NEXT, Wins Prestigious Björn Carlson Östersjöpris Award
We’re thrilled to announce that Professor Jacob Carstensen, together with his colleague Professor Daniel Conley from Lund University, has been honoured with the esteemed Björn Carlson Östersjöpris Award.
This prestigious recognition, lauds their research efforts that have significantly enhanced our understanding of the Baltic Sea’s challenges and paved the way for effective solutions.
Carstensen and Conley have played pivotal roles in shaping key research on critical topics such as eutrophication, water quality, hypoxia, and underlying biogeochemical processes in the Baltic Sea. Their collaborative approach has bridged diverse fields including environmental statistics, biogeochemistry, ecology, and marine biology, leading to transformative insights into the complex interplay of factors influencing the Baltic Sea ecosystem.
Their innovative work, grounded in advanced research methodologies, has not only identified the long-term impacts of nutrient loading and eutrophication but has also contributed valuable recommendations for improving the Baltic Sea’s water quality. The Björn Carlson Östersjöpris Award, established in 2021, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the Baltic Sea’s environment. As recipients of this prestigious accolade, Jacob Carstensen and Daniel Conley were awarded SEK 3 million to further their vital work towards a more vibrant and sustainable Baltic Sea.
