OBAMA-NEXT at Blue Tech Europe 2026
At Blue Tech Europe 2026, held in Paris on 21–22 April, OBAMA-NEXT researchers Hege Gundersen, Kasper Hancke, Melilotus Thyssen and Jacob Carstensen presented approaches for using novel technologies in biodiversity monitoring.
Their contributions highlighted how emerging tools can strengthen marine observation by improving the collection, processing and interpretation of biodiversity data. This reflects the broader OBAMA-NEXT objective of combining innovative monitoring approaches with advanced analytical methods to deliver information that is both scientifically robust and useful for policy and management.
The presentations formed part of a session on academia–industry knowledge transfer, which prompted engaging discussions among stakeholders from research, industry and policy. The exchange focussed on how to improve links between scientific development and practical uptake, and how to reinforce European production capacity for marine observation technologies.
These discussions are closely aligned with OBAMA-NEXT’s work to connect new monitoring tools with stakeholder needs and support more effective marine biodiversity assessment across European seas.
